A ROMANCE IN TEN HAIKUS

I.
morning breath kisses
like pink butterflies landing
this pacified flow

II.
real love tastes funny
like cheap wine and too much skin
never enough time

III.
birthmarks, freckles, scars
constellating your body
interstellar mold

IV.
serendipitous,
you are my stumbled upon
sudden stroke of luck

V.
a new renaissance
was born when I first met you
clean resurrection

VI.
your shoes by the door,
hands in my hair, becoming
something holy now

VII.
jawlines and cheekbones
shoulder blades and heaving chests
pure geometry

VIII.
hypothetical
slippage from my hands, how it
scares me to love you

IX.
but I will, I will
bracing for the turbulence
relentless death grip

X.
it is bravery
to trust someone with your heart
but I do, with you
