Veins constellate your eyelids,
miniature flashes of lightning.
When you blink, you storm
the parts of my soul unseen.
Purple like summer plums,
grape jelly on toasted wheat
with the crusts cut off. You
glow as tenderly as a new
bruise. I bask in it carefully,
trying not to disturb you.

I long for your royal light,
your interstellar touch.
All of my stars dance in
the wake of your gravity,
my sweet Andromeda.

Pull me closer.
I’d orbit you always.

If only you were just
a few light years closer.
