CLEAN

I like my body best
like a finished book.
No page left unread,
each and every one
dog-eared and adored.
There is cleanness in
completion. We earn
perfection by laboring
for it. Tonight I am
wrung dry by a full day.
Nothing more I could
have asked for, my hands
empty but wanting
nothing. Before Jesus
hung his head to die,
he said It is finished
those words which
purified all of man
in a flood of grace.
I will not wait for rain
nor stay up for the end.
I will lay my body down
and finish it. We earn
perfection in the wait
of rest. So I rest. Just
like that, for the birth
of a new unfolding
story.
